Schon früh war der Kran ein beliebtes Motiv in Büchern oder auf Postkarten. 1888 zeigt «Die Gartenlaube» auf Seite 877 den Großen Kran bei der Verladung einer Lokomotive, wobei der Zeichner C.W. Allers die Kettenschlaufe sinnentstellend gekürzt hat.
